Biography

Cristóbal David de Vera Cabrera has served as Mayor of Puerto del Rosario, the capital of Fuerteventura, since 2023, leading the municipality with a strong focus on sustainable development, social cohesion, and effective public governance. Alongside his role as Mayor, he is also Councillor for Social Services, where he promotes citizen-centred policies aimed at improving quality of life and strengthening community resilience.

Born in Puerto del Rosario, he combines a solid academic background with more than two decades of professional and public-sector experience. He holds a degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) in Pathological and Histological Anatomy from the University of La Laguna. His academic qualifications are complemented by specialised training in environmental sciences, education, and innovative teaching methodologies, providing him with a multidisciplinary perspective on sustainable territorial development.

Prior to his current office, he held a number of senior positions within the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Fuerteventura. His responsibilities have included leadership roles in education, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and rural development, where he contributed to the design and implementation of regional policies addressing economic diversification, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. Earlier in his career, he managed European-funded development initiatives and regional cooperation projects, gaining extensive experience in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and public administration.

As Mayor, Cristóbal David de Vera Cabrera advocates an inclusive and collaborative model of local governance that places citizens at the centre of decision-making. His administration is committed to strengthening institutional transparency, revitalising local communities, and fostering sustainable urban and territorial development while addressing the social and economic challenges facing municipalities in a rapidly changing environment.
