Biography

Darryl Abelscroft is a Deputy Director at the Department for Transport (DfT) in the United Kingdom, where he leads the Future of Aviation team. A seasoned Strategy & Policy professional with expertise spanning Climate & Energy, Aviation, and Youth Justice, Darryl excels in building and leading high-performing teams across public, private, and third sectors. In his current role, he oversees the issuance of the UK’s first spaceport license. Previously, as Head of Strategy and Technology in the Aviation Decarbonisation Division, Darryl played a pivotal role in developing and publishing the Jet Zero Strategy, securing substantial funding for Jet Zero R&D, and building the Jet Zero Council to inform government work. His educational background includes an MSc in Environmental Technology with a focus on Energy Policy from Imperial College London and a First-Class Honors BSc in Environmental Geoscience from the University of Edinburgh.
