Senior Expert Drone Regulations at the DLR Institute of Flight Systems and Leader of JARUS WG-SRM
Biography
Joerg Dittrich is a Senior Expert on Drone Regulations at the DLR Institute of Flight Systems, and is advising the German federal government and the German Aviation Authority LBA on application of rules and regulations for unmanned aviation and their continued development.
Since December 2022 Joerg is leading the workgroup “Safety and Risk Management” of the Joint Authorities on Rulemaking for Unmanned Systems (JARUS) and is the responsible coordinator for the development of the operational risk assessment tool SORA.
Joerg has had a 24-year career in academic and institutional research on unmanned aircraft systems and has been employed at DLR for 22 years.
Prior to his current mission, he was a department head for 11 years, guiding a team of 25 scientists and engineers in the fields of advanced and verifiable autonomy, automated situational awareness, risk and airworthiness analysis and flight test design and integration.
Joerg holds a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA, USA.
