Simon Bachelor

Biography

Simon is recently retired from the Metropolitan Police Service after an extensive 30-year career as a police officer, have undertaken various operational and strategic roles.

As an experienced senior leader, he has been actively engaged in diverse projects and programs, including significant involvement in Counter Terrorism initiatives.

He is currently a member of police staff at the British Transport Police and is the Head of Drones Programme, delivering a Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone capability for the force to tackle disruption across the railway. Working closely with Civil Aviation Authority and rail partners, the team are using the latest drone technologies to meet regulatory challenges.

Prior to retirement Simon worked for the NPCC Counter Drones Lead BTP Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi, as Policy and Legislation Lead working at the Home Office and across government. He managed a small, highly motivated team operating in an agile way to successfully deliver the capability for policing to both detect and mitigate the threat and risk posed by drones following the incident at Gatwick Airport in December 2018. He was a police policy advisor on the Air Traffic and Unmanned Aircraft Bill, which received Royal Assent in 2021.
